The DP World Tour, PGA and R&A introduce Global Amateur Pathway
PGA Tour, DP World Tour, and R&A Unveil New Global Amateur Pathway
The DP World Tour, PGA Tour, and The R&A have jointly introduced the Global Amateur Pathway, a significant initiative designed to support top male amateur golfers as they transition to professional careers.
This program, powered by the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), offers a structured route for non-collegiate amateurs to progress onto the DP World Tour and its partner Tours worldwide.
The Global Amateur Pathway will work alongside the PGA Tour University, which provides PGA Tour-sanctioned membership to leading Division-I college golfers post-NCAA Championship. This ensures comprehensive opportunities for elite amateur players across all ranks.
Under this initiative, the highest-ranked eligible non-collegiate male amateur within the WAGR top 20 will receive a DP World Tour card for the following season. The WAGR system, managed by The R&A and USGA, ranks elite amateur players globally and awards points through eligible championships.
The Global Amateur Pathway enhances the strategic alliances of the DP World Tour, offering additional exemptions on the European Challenge Tour and collaborating with seven partner Tours to finalize participation. The first ranking period ends on October 13, 2024, with exemptions awarded for the 2025 season.
Notable golfers like Tommy Fleetwood, Hideki Matsuyama, and Min Woo Lee, who began their careers with sponsor exemptions, would have benefited from this program, providing them a clear path to professional tours.
Guy Kinnings, DP World Tour Chief Executive, highlighted the new opportunities for top amateurs, while Martin Slumbers, CEO of The R&A, emphasized the importance of sustainable pathways for global talent. PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan underscored the initiative's role in strengthening the transition from amateur to professional golf.
Eligibility for the Global Amateur Pathway requires golfers to be at least 20 years old, not current NCAA Division-I players, and within the top 200 of WAGR. Rankings will be published weekly, with final qualifications determined by October 13, 2024.
This initiative marks a significant step in providing structured and equitable opportunities for amateur golfers worldwide, fostering the next generation of professional talent in the sport.

Miles Russel: Set for PGA Tour Debut at 15
Miles Russell, a 15-year-old golf prodigy from Florida, is set to make his PGA Tour debut at the Rocket Mortgage Classic after accepting a sponsor exemption. Russell made history as the youngest player ever to make a cut on the Korn Ferry Tour.
Russell made headlines in April when he shot a 5-under 66 at the Lecom Suncoast Classic in Longwood, Florida, securing his place in the PGA Tour's developmental circuit. The high school freshman from Jacksonville Beach has been taking online classes since eighth grade to accommodate his golfing schedule.
"Since I first picked up a golf club, my dream has been to compete on the PGA Tour and challenge myself against the top players," Russell shared on Monday. "I’m eager to make the most of this opportunity later this month."
In 2023, Russell was named the American Junior Golf Association player of the year, highlighted by his seven-shot victory in the Junior PGA Championship and becoming the youngest winner of the Junior Players Championship.
"Miles has demonstrated through his numerous achievements at such a young age that he belongs among the world's best golfers, and we are thrilled to see him compete at Detroit Golf Club," said Rocket Mortgage Classic Executive Director Jason Langwell.
Earlier this year, Miles came close to qualifying for a PGA Tour event, narrowly missing out in a playoff during a Monday qualifier for the Puerto Rico Open.
The record for the youngest player to make the cut in a PGA Tour-sanctioned event belongs to Guan Tianlang of China, who was 14 when he achieved the feat at the 2013 Masters as the Asia-Pacific Amateur champion.
Kith x TaylorMade Golf Collection
Kith has collaborated with TaylorMade to launch a new golf collection, and they enlisted Jimmy Fallon to help unveil it.
In the ad, Fallon starts by hosting his show, and then someone from backstage assists him in changing out of his suit to reveal a Kith x TaylorMade golf outfit underneath.
The collection offers a variety of items including t-shirts, hats, golf clubs, gloves, and more. Additionally, Kith announced that the Kith for TaylorMade collection will be available at a special pop-up shop in Pebble Beach, California, coinciding with the brand’s TaylorMade Invitational event.
This is the second collection the two brands have collaborated on and it reflects a further step toward golf culture impacting popular culture.
Kith, for those who are unaware, is a very successful lifestyle/streetwear brand from New York City and the brainchild of American footwear and clothing designer Ronnie Fieg. In November 2022, Fieg was named the first-ever Creative Director of the New York Knicks.
I’ve never owned their golf wear but do have a Kith jacket and some other items, I have to say, although not the cheapest, the quality is exceptional.
For more info on the collection, check out the Kith for TaylorMade 2024 website.
