TGL Welcomes Genesis as First Founding Partner
Tech-Driven Golf League Secures Major Sponsorship from Korean Car Manufacturer
TGL, the technology-driven golf league created by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy's TMRW Sports, has announced Korean car manufacturer Genesis as its inaugural founding partner.
Specifics of the deal have not yet been disclosed, but Genesis is expected to secure sponsorship placements within the 1,500-seat SoFi Center arena, TGL’s home venue, as well as in broadcast coverage.
Genesis joins SoFi, an online banking firm and TGL’s presenting partner, as one of the league's premier sponsors.
TMRW Sports CEO and co-founder Mike McCarley, a partner of Woods and McIlroy, commented on the collaboration, saying,
“The Genesis brand aligns perfectly with TGL. We look forward to working with Genesis to promote TGL and its teams to a global fan base in new and engaging ways.”
TGL is set to debut on January 7, 2025, following a postponement from the original 2024 start date due to storm damage at the host venue.
This partnership reinforces Genesis' significant involvement in high-level golf. The car brand is currently the title sponsor of the prestigious PGA Tour’s Los Angeles Open (the Genesis Invitational), the Scottish Open (co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour and European Tour), and is the automobile sponsor of the President’s Cup.
Recently, Genesis also became the sponsor of the European Tour’s Korea Championship, now called the Genesis Championship, after merging with the PGA Tour’s existing event. The car brand will continue as the title sponsor for this co-sanctioned event for the next three years, beginning with the October 2024 edition.
I am looking forward to seeing what becomes of the TGL. I think it’s an interesting entertainment concept that will introduce a whole new generation to the sport and provide us all with a fun new way to enjoy some of our favourite golfers.
If the TGL is new to you, here’s an article I wrote with a few details on the indoor golf concept.
